You do not need an appointment to pick up a passport. Passport collection is available Monday-Thursday, from 3:00pm-4:30pm. You must have your current passport to pick up your new passport.
If none of the above match the service you require, please email acsjohannesburg@state.gov for an appointment. We can only accommodate walk-ins for emergency services.
Please Note: There is no public parking available for American Citizens Services clients at U.S. Consulate Johannesburg. Vehicles stopping and passenger drop-offs at U.S. Consulate Johannesburg driveways are not permitted. Please be advised that vehicles may not stop or stand on Sandton Drive in front of U.S. Consulate Johannesburg to drop off, or pick-up passengers for any reason. For a fee, secured parking is available at Sandton City Shopping Mall across the street from U.S. Consulate Johannesburg.

The Consulate General in Johannesburg is closed on Fridays from 12 p.m. and on all U.S. and South African Public holidays. The Consular Section will not be able to provide non-emergency citizen services after hours or on weekends or holidays.

American citizens residing or traveling abroad who wish to renew their passports will be issued the latest, state-of-the-art passports incorporating a photo-digitized image and other enhanced security features. The Embassy estimates that citizens will receive their new passports approximately 7 to 10 working days from the date of submission. Citizens are urged to plan ahead and submit their applications at least two months prior to the expiration date.

You must provide one photo with your passport application. All our photo policies apply to both adults and children under age 16. We have a few exceptions to our photo policies for infants.
