Starting October 3, 2018 through January 15, 2019, U.S. Embassy Maseru will only be offering emergency services for American citizens. We will not be conducting regular consular services including visa adjudication and routine passport services. Travelers requiring any routine, non-emergency consular services are advised to plan accordingly and schedule their appointments prior to October 2 in Maseru, or with Consulate Johannesburg at https://za.usembassy.gov after October 2. Routine consular services will resume January 16, 2019. As always, assisting American citizens is an embassy priority. American citizen emergency services will continue to be available during this time.
The Embassy will continue to send messaging through our STEP enrollment system to keep American citizens informed.
Welcome to the American Citizen Services
The American Citizen Services Unit (ACS) of the Consular Section provides a full-range of passport and citizenship services, birth registrations for U.S. citizen children born abroad, inter-country adoptions, as well as notarial and authentication services. ACS also provides information and assistance to American citizens in Lesotho.
American Citizen Services Overview
U.S. Embassy Maseru encourages U.S. citizens to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). By doing so, we can provide important safety and security announcements. It will also help your friends and family get in touch with you in an emergency. Please remember to keep all of your information in STEP up-to-date. It is important during enrollment or updating of information to include your current phone number and current email address where you can be reached in case of an emergency.
If you have any questions, please email us at USConsularMaseru@state.gov, or phone us at +(266) 22-312-666.
If you are a U.S. citizen facing an emergency after working hours, please call +(266) 5888-4035
