U.S. Embassy Maseru Celebrates 241st anniversary of United States’ Independence

Ambassador Harrington and Minister Habofanoe Lehana cut the official July 4th Celebration cake.

On June 29, 2017, we celebrated the 241st anniversary of United States’ Independence in Maseru with our Basotho friends, colleagues, and government partners. Addressing the guests, Ambassador Matthew Harrington congratulated Basotho on peaceful and credible election and said he was “optimistic that Basotho from all walks of life – politicians, representatives of civil society, business leaders and ordinary citizens — will be able to come together to forge a new way forward. A way forward that moves Lesotho beyond recurring patterns of political instability and a culture of impunity toward a more mature democracy, a more vibrant economy, and a more prosperous nation.”
